Weddings

We love helping people to get married and Christ Church’s building, garden and neighbourhood can make for a wonderful and memorable wedding.

Couples themselves do not need to be Christian believers to get married at Christ Church. But to choose to marry here will be to choose a wedding that is shaped around the Christian understanding of marriage.

To marry at Christ Church, you will also need some sort of connection to the church. You can find more information here.

Baptisms

Baptism is the symbol of a new life united to Christ and his people. Jesus commands all who follow him to be baptised. In the Church of England, we are willing to baptise all ages of people and in everything from a sprinkling of water to full immersion. Our only conditions are that it is done with water, in the name of the Trinity, and in the context of living, repentant faith.

The baptism service involves making serious promises, either for ourselves or on behalf of infants. These promises are only appropriate for those who are actively following the Lord Jesus to make. So, at Christ Church, before getting a date in the diary for your baptism, we will want to meet you, hear something of your stories and look at the promises that at least someone will be making. We would encourage you to try to keep an open mind as to whether baptism is the best thing for you at this stage until we have had that conversation.

When it comes to marking the birth of a baby, many parents for a variety of good reasons decide to mark it not with a baptism but with a thanksgiving service. In a thanksgiving service we praise God for his gift of the baby and thank him for the skill of the medical staff and the love of friends and family. We then commit the baby’s future to God and ask him to bless them. Christ Church would be delighted to host a thanksgiving service for you on almost any Sunday of your choice. There is no charge, no requirement to attend church normally, and no preparation required.

Funerals & Memorial Services

We’ll always be here to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. At Christ Church we aim to do what we can in giving support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed.
